What Is Integrative Psychiatry? A Harrisonburg Perspective

If you’ve been searching for mental health care in Harrisonburg, Virginia, you might have come across the term “integrative psychiatry” and wondered what it means.

At Stillpoint Integrative Psychiatry and Wellness, we’re proud to bring this whole-person approach to the Shenandoah Valley.

But what exactly is integrative psychiatry, and how does it fit into life here in Harrisonburg? Let’s break it down.

A Blend of Science and Soul

Integrative psychiatry is more than just prescribing medication or checking boxes on a symptom list.

It’s a holistic approach that combines evidence-based psychiatric treatments—like medication management—with complementary strategies, such as nutrition, mindfulness, and lifestyle adjustments.

Think of it as care that sees you as a whole person, not just a diagnosis.

At Stillpoint, we believe your mental health is shaped by your body, mind, and environment, and we tailor our support to reflect that.

For example, if you’re a Harrisonburg resident feeling overwhelmed by stress—whether from a demanding job downtown or the pace of family life in the Valley—we might pair a low-dose medication with stress-reduction techniques and/or a simple sounding supplement that is actually quite powerful (such as magnesium glycinate) you can use at home.

This blend aims to address both the immediate struggle and the bigger picture of your well-being.

Why Harrisonburg Needs Integrative Care

Harrisonburg is a unique place—a blend of rural charm, a vibrant college community at James Madison University, and a growing hub in the Shenandoah Valley.

But with that comes unique challenges: seasonal shifts that affect mood, the pressures of small-town life, or even the hustle of balancing work and wellness.

Integrative psychiatry at Stillpoint adapts to these local realities.

We’ve seen how a holistic approach resonates here.

Maybe you’re a parent seeking balance, or a student navigating anxiety—our goal is to meet you where you are.

Instead of a one-size-fits-all solution, we might explore how your diet or sleep patterns tie into your mental health, alongside traditional tools.

It’s care that feels personal because it is.

How It Works at Stillpoint

When you start with us, your first visit—typically 75-90 minutes—sets the tone.

We’ll sit down for a solution-focused conversation, asking about your goals, challenges, and lifestyle.

Are you curious about medication? We’ll discuss it.

Want to try mindfulness or dietary shifts instead? We’ll guide you there, too.

The result is a plan that might include:

Medication Management: Precise, evidence-based prescriptions when needed.

Complementary Therapies: Tools like nutritional advice or mind-set shift to enhance your care.

Lifestyle Support: Practical tips tailored to your Harrisonburg life—think walks in Purcell Park or managing winter blues.

This isn’t about replacing traditional psychiatry; it’s about enriching it.

We lean on science while honoring the individuality of every client in our community.

Is Integrative Psychiatry Right for You?

If you’re in Harrisonburg or the Shenandoah Valley and feel like standard mental health care hasn’t fully clicked, integrative psychiatry might be the answer.

It’s for anyone who wants a deeper, more collaborative approach—whether you’re managing depression, anxiety, or simply seeking balance.

This place is amazing. The psychiatrist that I see is awesome. He really listens to concerns. Always gets back to you fairly quick if you send a message also. I wasn’t use to that at my previous Dr. I switched from them to Stillpoint because they had many providers there and they were constantly leaving and I got shuffled around quite a bit and was tired of getting use to one person then the next time I go I might not see them anymore. So there is stability at this office and that’s what I needed. Thanks again for all the help!! I would highly recommend trying them out, you won’t go wrong here!

Andrew has been awesome. After searching for a new psychiatrist in a pinch, he was able to get me in and on a new treatment plan fairly quickly. He listened to my exact needs and was able to find medications to help me immediately. He is very responsive and knowledgeable.

I had never been to a psychiatrist before meeting Andrew. I was drawn to him for his holistic approach, as I am not a fan of taking medication unless I absolutely need to. I was nervous my first visit but from the very get go, Andrew made the entire process super comfortable and easy. I felt not only heard but understood. I left that first visit looking forward to my next. Would 100% recommend.

I have had an amazing experience with Dr. Jecklin! He is very flexible with availability, is quick to answer emails and messages (which is imperative for a psychiatrist), has tons of knowledge in his field, and truly cares about his patients and their successes. Not only is Dr. Jecklin empathetic and understanding, but he has your best interest, allowing his patients to start with supplements that benefit their health and wellness, to prescribing necessary medications for his patients success. I would recommend Dr. Jecklin’s practice to anyone, due to his wonderful personality and expertise!

Andrew has been very helpful over the last few months by creating a comprehensive treatment plan with a holistic approach. I have felt heard and liked the fact that I was not immediately prescribed something, but was given lifestyle change recommendations and supplements to support my needs. Would definitely recommend!
